Our 10 Best Christmas Cookie Recipes – Ranks 10 to 6
10. Nordic Crispy: Brown Cakes
One of the Christmas cookie recipes that I got from my mother and loved to eat as a child. This typical northern German Christmas pastry is called “cake”, but it is cookies!
Ingredients
- 250 g sugar beet syrup
- 125 g sanella or butter
- 125 g sugar
- 500 g flour
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1 sachet baking powder
- 1 packet gingerbread spice
- 1 egg
To Decorate:
- Condensed milk or icing (powdered sugar + lemon juice)
- 150 g almonds (halved or staked)
Preparation
Heat syrup, fat and sugar in a saucepan until a uniform mass, stir and let cool. Sift about 300 g of flour into a bowl with cocoa and the spices. Stir in the cooled syrup mixture and the egg. Mix the remaining flour and baking powder sifted into the batter. Mindestens ½ Stunde kaltstellen.
Bake at 180° convection oven for about 10 min..
Working time: 45 minutes.
9. Double Is Better: Raspberry Cookies
Ingredients
- 250 g flour
- 1 str. teaspoon baking powder
- 125 g butter or margarine
- 70 g sugar
- 1 egg
- grated zest of an organic lemon / 1 packet lemon zest flavoring
- 1 pinch of salt
- 200 g raspberry jelly
Preparation
Prepare shortcrust pastry, refrigerate for half an hour. Roll out the dough thinly, preferably between cling film and cut out cookies, preferably round, flower or star-shaped. Cut out a hole in the middle of half of the Christmas cookies, you can use a thimble for this, or like me a smaller cookie cutter (see picture). Spread all the cookies on baking sheets lined with baking paper and bake for about 8 min. at 180° degrees.
Now spread jelly on the cookies without the hole and dust the rings with sifted powdered sugar. Carefully grab the rings by the edges and place them on the jelly cookies.
Working time: About 1 hour.

7. Delicious Classic: Nuremberg Elisenlebkuchen
Ingredients (for 50-60 gingerbreads)
- 500 g almonds
- 400 g brown sugar
- 100 g candied lemon peel
- 100 g candied orange peel
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. ground cardamom
- 1 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
- 1 tsp. grated lemon peel (untreated) / 1 package lemon peel flavoring
- 5 eggs
- 1 pinch of salt
- approx. 30 wafers (70 mm)
- 200 g plain chocolate coating
- 100 g
- Powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 100 g almond or walnut halves (with almond is classic, walnut is my variation)
Preparation
First beat the eggs with salt and sugar until foamy. Chop the candied lemon peel, candied orange peel and the 500 g almonds in a blender or food processor and add to the dough. Line a baking tray with baking paper and lay out the wafers on it. Use a teaspoon to distribute the dough in small heaps on the wafers and smooth it down. Das geht am besten mit einem feuchten Messer! The gingerbread will be best if you let them dry overnight in a cool place before baking.
The next day, preheat the oven for about 10 minutes at 175 degrees, then bake at 150 degrees convection about 20 minutes.
Melt the couverture in a hot water bath, let it set again and melt it again. Now mix the powdered sugar with the lemon juice. When the gingerbread has cooled, coat one half with chocolate glaze, the other with icing and decorate with almond halves or another type of nut, such as walnuts.
Working time: 60 minutes.
6. The Family Secret Recipe: Lemon Moons With Chocolate Dip

- 300 g chocolate coating (plain or semi-sweet)
Preparation
Knead the soft butter with lemon zest flavoring, powdered sugar (preferably sifted), flour, almonds and egg yolk by hand. Refrigerate the mixture for one hour.
