The Legends of Andor Board Game – A Fabulous Game for Fantasy Fans!

On New Year’s Eve, the time had finally come: we had been wanting to test the increasingly popular the Legends of Andor board game for a long time. So it was perfect that this time we celebrated in a small circle of 4 people, because that’s the maximum number of players allowed in Andor.
Since its release in 2012, The Legends of Andor board game has been a real triumph in the board game community, and in the following year it was already voted “Kennerspiel des Jahres” in Germany. Now that we have played the first Legend, we can understand why.
The Start of the Adventure
As soon as we unpacked the game materials and set up the game, we were struck by how lovingly everything was designed. However, the sheer amount of cards in different sizes, figures, tiles, different dice and magical items made us downright dizzy at first. Would we need as long for a round of The Legends of Andor board game as for reading Tolkien’s complete works?
Don’t worry: you don’t need all the game materials for the first adventure in Andor, and a practical go-to game guide (in addition to the detailed instructions) leads inexperienced players like us step by step into the game. Before the actual first game, there is a short introductory round that familiarised us with the pieces, as well as with the game board and the way a turn works.
The Player Experience
Once we were in, the fun really began. There are four heroes in the Legends of Andor board game: Warrior, Wizard, Dwarf and Archer. Each hero character comes in female or male and each hero has a special ability.
Since you do not play against each other in Legends of Andor, but in a team – against monsters and challenges, so to speak – it is very important to coordinate with each other as to who does which task in their turn, to whom rewards such as gold or will points are allocated, etc.
The game runs in several days, with each player having a standard 7 hours of daytime each day. He can use as many of these as he wants per turn to either move from square to square, or to attack a monster if he is standing on a square with it.
And now some of the monsters come onto the field! First the horrible Gors attack Andor and try to storm the castle of King Brandur, then the even more horrible (because also harder to defeat) Skrale join them!
And in all the chaos the heroes also have to deliver an important message! Because we stuck together as a team and were not discouraged by the sudden running dry of wells, stubborn dice luck or other dangers, we finally managed to master all the challenges of the first Legend of Andor.
But there are at least 5 more adventures waiting for us and we are already full of anticipation to enter the legendary world of Andor again. Because even if we have played through all 5 legends, there are now several expansions for even more fun – as die-hard game fans, the Legend of Andor board game has even more fun in store.

Conclusion
The Legends of Andor is quite a demanding game that you first have to get used to. However, once you have done that and immersed yourself in the rules and the game world, it offers extremely varied and exciting hours. In addition, it is a very nice group experience, since you play together and pull together to master the adventures.
