Christmas ornaments can be made not only from wood, straw or paper: you can make beautiful wine cork Christmas ornaments. Here’s how to do it.
Corks from wine bottles have a great texture and with a few handicraft tools, which you usually have on hand anyway, you can make pretty wine cork Christmas ornaments yourself. Every year we decorate the Christmas tree and unpack our bought and self-made Christmas tree decorations – and make new ones!
Besides stars, my favourite motif is the snowflake – made of salt dough, music paper and now also from corks, the wintry flakes decorate windows and the Christmas tree. On Greatime you will find several craft ideas with DIY instructions for Christmas decorations.
For this wine cork Christmas ornaments, I used various fabric gift ribbons, the hot glue gun and scattered wooden decorations. You can find everything you need to make this decoration on the material list.

How to Craft Wine Cork Christmas Ornaments as Snowflakes
Time: about 20 minutes per snowflake made of cork
1. Cut and Glue the Corks
First, put the tape measure on the corks and mark the cuts at a distance of 1 cm. Then cut the corks into 1 cm wide slices as evenly as possible using the markings.
You will need 7 slices of cork for each snowflake Christmas tree ornament. One slice of cork forms the centre piece, then glue the other 6 slices around the outside using the hot glue gun.
2. Glue the Ribbon as a Border
For stability, stick the ribbon around the outside of the cork flower. Make sure you press the tape on tightly so that there are no unsightly creases.
3. Attach the Hanging, Scatter Decoration and Bow to the Cork Christmas Ornaments
Knot a piece of baker’s twine and glue the knot where the beginning and the end of the ribbon meet to hide this spot.
I tied bows from white satin ribbon and glued a bow on top of each knot of the hanging.
Finally, you just have to glue a scatter decoration snowflake made of wood on the front and the back.
