Organising a perfect picnic is not difficult at all. Anyone can do it easily with a little preparation and the right equipment. Because what it really comes down to is a good selection of different snacks, finger food and cold dishes. And they don’t have to be elaborate to cook! And to make the picnic comfortable, cosy and easy to enjoy, don’t skimp on the equipment!
For our picnic checklist for the perfect picnic, the following applies: as practical as possible, space-saving and yet stylish, and without spending a lot of money.
Picnic Checklist
Indispensable Basics for the Perfect Picnic
- Good insulated and moisture-wicking picnic blanket*
- Sufficiently large refrigerator or refrigerator bag
- Picnic basket or Picnic suitcase
- Proper cutlery, plates, cups and glasses, because they are much more comfortable and environmentally friendly than cardboard and plastic 😉
- Well-sealed food boxes, Well-sealed food boxes, as protection against bees, ants and other creepy-crawlies
- Bottle opener, corkscrew
- Can opener
- Bread Knife
- Sharp knifes with blade protection (for tomatoes, fruit, cheese…)
- Cutting board
- Napkins
- Kitchen roll and moisture wipes
- Salt and pepper shakers
- Lighter
- Leatherman oder universal pocket knife
- Mosquito spray und Mosquito candles
- Sunscreen
- Pillar candles in screw jars oder lantern
- Torch (but this is also integrated in most smartphones)
- 1 roll of toilet paper
- At least 3 rubbish bags
- First aid kit with plasters and insect bite ointment
For Fun and Entertainment
- Portable Bluetooth boxes and smartphone / MP3 players with music
- Classical games: Card game, dice game such as Yahtzee
- Trendy throwing games like Crossboccia, Mölkky and Kubb or Ultimate Frisbee
- Paper and pens for writing games
- Soccer or Beach volleyball set
- Prepare drinking games – you never know 😉
- Digital camera to capture it all – especially awesome comes a Polaroid camera
You Can Do It, but You Don’t Have To
- Disposable barbecue for warm treats
- Parasol, depending on the weather
- Thermos flask with coffee or tea
- Warm blankets for cooler days
- Camping table set with benches
Finger Food, Snacks and Drinks
- Small snacks such as crispy baguette with olive oil, tomato mozzarella and balsamic cream, figs with feta cheese wrapped in bacon, stuffed olives, stuffed crepe rolls, cold quiche, colourful skewers, sticks of raw vegetables, homemade meatballs, cold chicken thighs, antipasti, Russian eggs or hard-boiled eggs
- Homemade dips such as tzatziki, tomato salsa, yoghurt dip
- Herb butter, garlic butter or truffle butter
- Mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise
- Tortilla chips, bread chips
- Fresh fruit for dessert such as strawberries, melon, grapes
- Biscuits, snacks, waffles, gummy bears
- Everything with chocolate in the cooler
- Various salads – take dressing separately in a jar and add it on the spot
- Wine, sparkling wine and beer
- Juice for juice spritzers
- Iced tea
- Mint leaves and lemon slices for the water
- Crushed ice
- Per person at least 1l water
