Schöffel Hiking Trousers in Test – 2 of the Best Hiking Trousers 2021 | Advertisement

Sch Ffel Hiking Trousers In Test 2 Of The Best Hiking Trousers 2021 AdvertisementAre you looking for a good pair of hiking pants?  We have tested 2 of the latest Schöffel hiking trousers. Read about our test experiences with the Koper1 and the Engadin1 here, as well as what the pros and cons of these hiking trousers are..

What makes a good pair of hiking pants? The right hiking trousers should be weatherproof, robust and dirt-repellent and at the same time offer high wearing comfort. For longer hikes in particular, it is extremely important that you feel comfortable when wearing them. Chafing or pinching trousers can really spoil the fun of a hiking tour. We have already had this experience. This makes it all the more worthwhile to look for high quality and wearing comfort.

So that you neither sweat nor freeze too quickly in your hiking trousers, it is also essential that they are breathable. On the other hand, they should also be rain-repellent and dry quickly again after a shower, which is common, for example, when hiking in the low and high mountains, even in summer.

There are different types of hiking pants: the most important are the classic hiking pants, the cargo pants, the zip-off pants and the roll-up pants. They all have different advantages and disadvantages, and it also depends on the wearer which hiking trousers are perfect for you. Not every pair of hiking trousers is suitable for everyone.

Cooperation With the Traditional Company Schöffel

This review is a sponsored cooperation with the traditional company Schöffel, a real house number for sportswear. We only publish sponsored posts about products that we are really convinced of and that we think offer you, dear readers, added value.

What also convinced us about the cooperation and the products from Schöffel is that the medium-sized family business attaches great importance to sustainability, environmental protection and fair working conditions at the production sites, which is not a matter of course in the textile industry. We stand by our conviction that the company ethics must match our values and we privately place particular emphasis on quality, sustainability and durability when buying an outdoor product.

The Schöffel Hiking Trousers in the Test

As part of the collaboration, we test 2 Schöffel hiking trousers from the latest collection: the Pants Koper1, and the Pants Engadin1, both as classic hiking trousers.
We tested the hiking trousers on several easy to moderate hikes in the Black Forest at pleasant 14°C-18°C and a few rain showers. For hiking in higher temperatures and weather changes, it is worth considering buying hiking trousers with a zip-off function (both Engadin1 and Koper1 are also available as zip-off hiking trousers). The changeable weather with occasional rain showers provided good test conditions to find out how well the Schöffel hiking trousers withstand wind and weather in practice.

How Did the Schöffel Hiking Trousers Perform in the Practical Test?

The Schöffel hiking trousers proved to be consistently comfortable in the test
Comfortable even when climbing stairs: the Koper1 hiking trousers from Schöffel

What struck us immediately when we first put them on was how well the hiking trousers fit. Both hiking trousers fit us slim and normally built people perfectly and visually we like them very much. This is also because the waistband of both trousers is flexibly adjustable and the stretch material adapts nicely to the figure. This means that the trousers are neither too tight nor too loose.

Usually, you only notice when hiking trousers are used intensively if there are restrictions in wearing comfort. This was not the case at all with the Schöffel hiking trousers tested. During light climbing and longer use, we feel very comfortable throughout.

It is also essential for a good pair of hiking trousers that they withstand the weather conditions well. We were particularly impressed by how quickly the Schöffel hiking trousers dried again after a heavy downpour.

And when the sun came out and beat down on us, we noticed the pleasant cooling effect of the so-called Ice Café technology, which is used in both Schöffel hiking trousers. With this technology, Schöffel demonstrates how to combine sustainability with functionality: Recycled coffee is used as a textile component in the fabric of the hiking trousers. This makes the fabric slightly cooling in the heat and at the same time odour-inhibiting.

Functionality of Schöffel Hiking Trousers and Variants for Different Uses

Functional and stylish at the same time: the Engadin1 hiking trousers

When hiking in nature, it is not unusual for functional clothing to get dirty. It often happens that hiking trousers are used for several days in a row, but a washing machine is not an option, e.g. because you are at a hut in the mountains or there is simply no time for this between hiking tours. It is therefore advantageous if functional clothing is as dirt-repellent as possible from the outset and any dirt can be easily washed out and brushed off. This is the case with both Schöffel hiking trousers, we simply cleaned them by hand with clear water without soap or detergent the evening before the next stage and removed most of the dirt splashes.

Schöffel hiking trousers in the classic version are ideal companions for hikes in summer and the transitional seasons. For changing weather conditions, both models are also available in a zip-off version, which is definitely a worthwhile investment if you like to go on longer tours in summer. For autumn and winter, Schöffel also offers hiking trousers with inner lining (marked with the additional letter w).

Can we recommend with conviction: the hiking trousers from Schöffel

Germany has just as much to offer as Italy and France! Breathtaking nature with mystical mountains, mountain ranges, valleys, gorges, river floodplains and lakelands, national parks, the sea and historical sights and places of longing. There are great experiences, attractions and sights to try out and discover every day in Berlin and Germany’s beautiful cities.

When the hustle and bustle of our beloved adopted hometown Berlin becomes too much for us, we swap the concrete, the big city feeling and the wide range of leisure activities for hiking pants and adventure and go on a journey of discovery. On Greatime we report on our most beautiful tours and the experiences that particularly thrilled us.

Here on our website you can find tips for action & excursions, or more generally leisure activities with friends, for couples and for families. Most of these are (still) location independent, such as our 75 tips for getting kids outside.

If you’re in Berlin, Brandenburg, Baden-Württemberg or Bavaria, you can also find local excursion and hiking tips, e.g. in Brandenburg the Hellsee hike or in Bavaria our top 7 excursion destinations in the Allgäu.
